Long before, when all was nothing, a small beam of light flashed in space. Mother of Life and Father of Death decided to spend a creative day together. In jest, they created the Universe. Mother of Life created female objects and Father of Death created male objects.
Together they created Earth. Using Earth’s essence, the Moon was created. Both Universal parents decided that the Moon should be close to Mother Earth. So, the Moon was anchored to Earth with her gravity. Then, the day of the Harvest festival arrived on earth. The earth people prepared to celebrate a fortnight long festivity.
Mother Earth sent out the invitation to all the planets and satellites. The Sun also received an invitation to attend the festivity. The festival was concluded with a ball till midnight on the final day. The jolly Sun walked on the Earth, he arrived early before dawn, on the first day of the festival. He did not want to scorch the Earth and its residents with super high heat. So, he returned to his abode before the day broke.
The Sun had planned to visit just once and leave before the crowd arrived for the festivity. During his stroll around the garden, he ambled along. Down one of the garden paths, the Sun came across the Moon near a lake filled with lotus flowers.
He was lost in his thought of wonderful things on earth. The Sun came upon the calm Moon twirling a leave on the lake. At that very moment, he fell in love with her. His joy and happiness were to watch the Moon from far. The Moon made him serene and quiet content with just gazing at her.
For the next few days, he planned his visit in such a way, so that he could secretly watch the Moon. On the path to the Lake of Mirrors where the Moon would be ambling, there was a noodle stall. An elderly grandma ran the noodle stall.
The Sun, in his love, had lost all his interest in food. But when he saw the stall, he felt an intense pang of hunger. The Sun decided to have some noodles before his visit to see the Moon. The Sun approached the Noodle shop Grandma and asked, “Grandma, may I have a bowl of hot noodles.”
“Oh, I’m sorry dear son! My woods are wet and there is no kindle to light up my firewood stove, so I cannot make noodles for you without lighting the stove,” replied the Noodle shop Grandma with a twinkle in her eyes. But the Sun failed to notice it.
“Don’t worry Grandma, I will help you with the fire,” said the Sun smiling.
The Noodle shop Grandma looked at the Sun in surprise, she told him, “I shall be grateful for your help.” The Sun carefully collected the firewood and turned them around in his hands. Soon they were all dry and he then thought to himself, “now I need a kindle to fire up the stove.”
The Sun went to the cow shed and asked the dairy Farmer if he could borrow some hay. The dairy Farmer smiled at the Sun and gave the Sun some hay.
Using the hay, the Sun prepared the kindle after he gently stared at it. Then, he placed the firewood in the mud stove and started the fire. Soon it began to blaze, and the stove was ready for the grandma to cook the noodles. The Noodle shop Grandma was overjoyed and quickly started to make him a bowl of hot noodles.
After having had the noodles and then, thanking grandma, the Sun decided to go in search of the Moon near the Lake of Mirrors. As always expected, he found his Moon twirling a leaf on the calm lake waters. He always watched the Moon hiding behind a wise tree.
On one such visit the Wise Tree opened his eyes and asked why the Sun was hiding from the Moon. The Sun said, “I am too shy to talk to her!” Then, the tree thought for a while, spoke with the birds, and planned the Sun’s meeting with the Moon.
Under the chorus of the singing birds, the Sun and the Moon met and spent time together. They went on a boat ride. The Sun was rowing a boat to the center of the Lake as the water creatures followed their boat. The Lake of Mirrors moved by the two lovers decided to get the stars reflected on its clear water. In this way, the Sun and the Moon spend their time together.
Soon the last day of the festival was upon them without them being aware of it. Mother of Life and Father of Death arrived with their retinue of Vegetables and Fruits spirits. The vibes in the dancing hall were filled with lots of enthusiastic cheer and happiness.
The party was in full swing as the Moon and Mother Earth entered the hall. Meanwhile, the Sun had arrived early and was hiding behind a dark curtain carefully watching the doorway. When he spotted the Moon, he was thrilled. He waited for the Moon to be by herself and then signaled her to come out of the hall.
One of the events of the party included a celestial rule. When the party ended all gathered around the platform under a beam of light. All participant in the dance would line up to be blest by Mother of Life and Father of Death. After which they collected the blessing from Light and Sound. Any person who misses this event would be punished with a curse. The Sun and the Moon were so much in love that they forgot the moment of blessing.
Both Universal parents knew that the Sun and the Moon were missing. They tried to stall the discovery of that fact. When all were blessed, it was found out that two people were missing. Soon a search party set out to check around the gardens and party grounds. This resulted in the search guards finding the two missing persons deep in conversation near the Lake of Mirrors. When they were presented in front of the Universal parents both looked clueless and lost in looking at each other.
There was a thunderous clap and a beam of light descended upon them and forbidding them from being together. Father of Death and Mother of Life were disheartened. Mother Earth understood that to gain forgiveness from Great Gods, the Sun and the Moon had to repent.
In a fit of anger, the Father of Death dismissed both the Sun and the Moon to reflect on their behavior and misdemeanor. The Sun and the Moon were moved to tears to be parted from each other. Mother Earth spoke to them and placated them.
Mother of Life calmed down Father of Death. All the party guests and hosts tried to intercede for the Sun and the Moon. The voice from the beam of light granted that the pair would be together when an eclipse formed in the sky. This cheered all.
The Sun and the Moon were the happiest to hear they could be together a few times in a year. The Light from Heaven promised them when there was a Solar Eclipse and a Lunar Eclipse, the Sun and the Moon could stay together. Mother Earth promised that they could enjoy a bowl of noodles made by the old granny. She was none other than Mother Earth who supported and encouraged the Sun and the Moon.
The ball ended with some good joyous celebratory music. It culminated with the wedding of the Sun and the Moon. Mother Earth and all the planets and the stars joined in to give away the Moon in marriage. Mother of Life and Father of Death were happy to witness their union.
That is why the Sun and the Moon have only a few days in a year to be together during an eclipse. The rest of the days, the Sun and the Moon were happy with their long-distance relationship. The Sun continued to look at the Moon, while she twirled a leaf on the Calm Lakes of Mirrors.
