On my writing desk there is a reusable flip calendar with the months and days on it. It has some quotes from The Puducherry Ashram showcasing affiliated thoughts on Spiritual themes as quoted by The Mother and Sri Aurobindo. This calendar technically, you can use it endlessly until it can stand the flipping function. This also calls for some patience while flipping the date card to the next one.
I picked a calendar quote for September 27, and it was The Mother’s voice which told me something that was truly wonderful to hear and to observe. The Mother mentions that one must learn to be calm and quiet even during difficulties. This is the way to overcome all obstacles.
For a moment, I stopped to reflect how I handled situation in my life. I am a nervous person. Where there is no shortage of time, I panic over deadlines and last-minute transfer. There was such flutters of heart and ennui of pointless worry. Yet to keep the calm in the face of my inner turmoil that takes a lot out of me.
Analysis of Worry
Let’s take worry as an entity and observe how it takes over human thoughts and human actions in response to worry. Against all odds to stay calm in a situation that warrant fear, insecurity, clueless of outcome, angst challenges that stops the progress to conclusions and much more.
So, how to stay calm. When one is looking at the worrisome thoughts with subjectivity and looping with inner reference point then, our response will also become filled with subjectivity. There is a need for some amount detached view of the worry. That is hard to come by for me.
Detachment a Possible Solution to Fight Worry
How to become detached from worry? Interesting question, isn’t it? Let us define worry. Worrying about something over which we have no control is a kind of worry spiral. One cannot do anything because the outcome is based on the elements that is outside. If the worry is related what we do or self-controlled element then, there is a fix.
But in situation where our change in attitude and in expression needs a fix to rectify the situation then you can follow through. But the most important thing that one needs is to see if in each worry how much of it can be self-handled from your side. When that is determined then, the lack of control merely needs a fix in the attitude.
My cousin who is reconnecting with her inner self and trying to resurrect her inner passion and vibes. She mentioned about using WWJD (What Would Jesus Do) in any kind of emotionally troubling situation in life. I could give it an Indian tadka to it and make it WWKD (What Would Krishna Do) in a difficult and morally unstable situation.
I don’t know if I took away any new learning, but it made me surer of myself and what I want to emulate in life. I may not be a socially right person. There have been choices in life that has left me wondering if I am a best choice for the task God has sent me down to Earth while I am grappling to understand in the first place.
Will I be facing a committee to dissect my Karmas and receive a verdict on it? Well life is not about past, future at all. It is more about the here and now. What have we done differently? Are we still stuck with our prejudices? The unfailing attitude to remain undaunted by worry is impossible! But how we handle it is in our hands and our capabilities.
