Interestingly, I happen to be experimenting on working with an outline. I generally freewheel while creating blog post as a random pick and throw in thoughts. I felt maybe I should change my writing strategies and try out creating an outline first. So, where do I head, of course, to ChatGPT Ai.
The fact that the prompt was four attempts to get a summary text of a Netflix URL. It failed on all attempts show the exact documentary I was trying to write about using an outline summary of the trailer.
Netflix Documentary on Future
The documentary was titled “What’s Next? The Future with Bill Gates in Netflix. I was watching this show rather bingeing to use the proper action word to it. At some point, my meds kicked in and I fell asleep.
In morning, I woke up to see many episodes had passed until all power in my phone battery was completely drained. This, of course, resulted in me reseeing the documentary from the beginning.
Remembering Generation Labels
I was reminded about the previous week’s blog post. I had written about various generation post on a Hungarian sociologist Karl Maanheim’s labels to generations since 20th century. At this point, I started wondering about the stories behind the data collected and fed to the Ai.
Does Ai find human interesting, or does it develop biases along the line, or does it judge us to such two-faced humans, or naively believe all that is fed to it, or are we creating an elusive illusion of a loch ness monster?
AI Through Generational Eyes: Data Meets Stories
The interesting thing about Ai is that it has been much like other inventions of the Industrial Revolution era. No one could predict the outcome of the invention, definitely blindsided by inventor who were caught up in the innovation.
I would say the part of the problem is that what is a solution for one need but eventually our socially sanctioned creators have created more problems than long lasting safe solutions.
The Generational Puzzle
I grew up with tricycle rides to school which in about a couple of years turned to motor run tricycle, eventually landed travelling by the public transport where surviving a ride was considered accomplishment.
I come from as yet developing country India, and I am also from the quieter environs of the South. Here embracing technology takes a lit bit more time than the North of India! Given the social middle class upbringing through my growing impressionable ages, I felt that having a telephone was a privilege.
Gen X View of Technological Progress
As a person from Gen X groupie, I would say that books were the most read experience for me. Computer and its ancillary technology happened much later in my adult life. But the limited use for typing purpose for my father’s office woks.
I have experience of watching MS-DOS space (Computer at 1988), to MS Works application (Software on home computer 1990), then to MS Office (on my laptop 2003). Finally to Microsoft Office 365 (on my Mac 2021) was happening and disarming to experience.
Rapid Change Could Be Perceived
How the documents and presentation went about a phenomenal change was super surprising for me. Rapidity of the change was minimal and often forced change to upgrades that made it irksome and hard to take in.
Starting at a low computing level and scaling up and above to Ai run application is something that makes me wonder if the world rules will change with the changing environment from the Real-live experiences to Virtual life experiences.
Speaking for Myself
I can only speak for myself and not have anything to say about other generations as it would be inspired writing based on empathy. The current generation and the future generations will be born with the set of missteps that the previous generations have taken.
Our children are bequeathed with our false steps which we have taken in the view of being progressive and innovative. Innovators can no longer be just nuclear form of single person creators but to view if their inventions are not cause more issues than solving any?!!!
Are Present-Day Innovation for Betterment or Not?!
Right from the time when the first wheel was invented there were risks of being crushed by the wheel, that did not stop the creation of it. So, I must say that it creates a lot of difficulties because we are blindsided the repercussion. If an objection is placed we are quick to defend the creation.
The speed at which technological innovation is happening should pose a pause and self-reflection. Being accountable of the creation is one of way of looking at the best solution that would not self-harm any living creature on planet Earth.
Consumer’s Choice and Social Responsibilities
Every individual who is making any choice must compulsorily know that their choices create ripples of whole planet level impact. Now is not the time to find faults against each other but to figure how to work together as residents of the planet.
Issues like Climate Change and accelerating the troubles of weather going wacky wacko in every country globally are not good news and neither is it to start a blame game. One of the most diversifying personal interests of select few countries leads the way in making changes.
Pessimist or Optimist Views
While looking at the various advancement I am often perplexed by the thought changes happen in equal force among the social levels is incredible. The people can take the plunge in for either of the views. But the solution lies in the positive driving away the negative.
Being accountable to your creation is every innovator’s responsibility. Achieving progress in life and lifestyle should be upliftment of the entire society as a compost whole and not a personal self-interest action.
The repercussion of technology also indicate that the inventor does not have data about predicting what a particular invention is going to reap upon the future generation. Given the Ai presence and it capabilities, maybe we should test virtually each innovation’s impact on the earth!
