Savitri is a side story from Mahabharata which speaks about the brave intellectual word sparing with Lord Yama and Princess Savitri who debated and argued to get her spouse’s life back and his prosperity.
Sri Aurobindo turns the entire story into an epic piece of spiritual quest that all of us are currently undergoing and the eventual clearance found in our path towards the Supreme Being or ultimate Godhead in Human realms.
Part of My Research and Plan for this section of my blog site
Savitri – A Legend and a Symbols by Sri Aurobindo | While searching online I came across this website and felt an inner call to read it. A Summary by Jyotipriya gives me a rough plan which I will be working on.
I need to have more faith in my inner guide for providing me the right vision for this project. As someone who plays with words, I love poetry, this will be my fourth epic poem; but it is the first one that touches upon spirituality.
My Summary of the Amar Chitra Katha comic version will be somewhat like this:
Satyavan and Savitri with Lord Yama would be the main roles. Lord Yama, the god of death should not be taken as the villian like in all regular stories. Here is a situation where the lord of death aims more towards explaining life and death is the time taken to open and to shut your eyes.
Within that blink, a whole life to death flashes before us like reels in realism. We then played out the scene in loops. The characters are no longer just Satyavan, Savitri, or Lord Yama but they stand for altered state of human existence. The intellectual warring between them for the right from the wrong or non-existence of the dual state is a realization that dawn upon the human spiritual path.
Savitri follows Lord Yama until he gives her back Satyavan’s life and prosperity. Her triumph and achievement of her goal to bring back the fated path of life and death for Satyavan to life and stay among the living, truly speaks for the extent of strength of character each had to display in the poem.
Well research is still early days please do watch out for my post when I begin to learn and then to share my lessons learnt as per my capabilities.

Story of Satyavan and Savitri
Let’s begin with the story of Satyavan and Savitri. This story is revealed to the listening Pandavas, when Yudhishthira poses a question to Sage Markandeya saying, “If in the past was there any woman who was similar to Drupadi and her devotion? For which, the sage narrates the story of Satyavan and Savitri.

Initially, I thought that I will merely translate the verse into simple functioning English and leave it at that. But somehow the inner calling states that the interpretation stand more appropriate in the spiritual awakening process.
So, I am going to amble along with the blank verses written by Sri Aurobindo and find the inner connection as a cherisher of poetry. You may find some discrepancy in it but I wish to continue at that particular level of intelligence and make changes as and when I experience it internally.

I found while writing down about each Cantos, that my understanding was not deep enough to capture such a huge work of Sri Aurobindo. I feel challenged beyond my capabilities. So, I am restructuring the entire work into something that is more at my intellectual level and not force the issue of understanding.
