Tum Aa gaye Ho by Gulzar Sahab | My Translation Take

Tum Aa Gaye Ho
Noor Aa Gaya Hai
Nahin To Charagon Se
Lau Jaa Rahi Thi

Jeene Ki Tumse
Vajah Mil Gai Hai
Badi Bevajah
Zindagi Jaa Rahi Thi

Tum Aa Gaye Ho
Noor Aa Gaya Hai

Kahan Se Chale Kahan Ke Liye
Yeh Khabar Nahin Thi Magar
Koi Bhi Sira Jahan Ja Mila
Vahin Tum Miloge
Ke Hum Tak
Tumhari Dua Aa Rahi Thi

Tum Aa Gaye Ho
Noor Aa Gaya Hai
Nahin To Charaagon
Se Lau Jaa Rahi Thi

Tum Aa Gaye Ho
Noor Aa Gaya Hai

Din Duba Nahin
Raat Dubi Nahin
Jaane Kaisa Hai Safar
Khwaabon Ke Diye
Aankhon Men Liye
Vahin Aa Rahe The
Jahan Se Tumhaari
Sadaa Aa Rahi Thii

Tum Aa Gaye Ho
Noor Aa Gaya Hai
Nahin To Charagon
Se Lau Ja Rahi Thi

My Attempt at Translation

You have arrived — and light with you.
Else, from the candles,
The flame was fading, too.

You gave my life a reason to be.
Else, quite meaninglessly,
It was slipping away from me.

You have arrived — and light with you.
Where I began, where I must go —
I never knew, But then…

Wherever my veins met
There I met with you
For always towards me
Your prayers keep coming.

You have arrived — and light with you.
Else, from the candles,
The flame was fading, too.

You have arrived
So does the radiance arrive

The day didn’t set, the night didn’t fall,
What strange journey is this, after all?
Lamps of dreams, borne in eyes
Towards the same place was it going
From where your presence, forever comes.

You have arrived — and light with you.
Else, from the candles,
The flame was fading, too.

This song from Aandhi had one of my favourite actors Sanjeev Kumar in the main role. It was generally known as the story of a prominent Politician. Though it is not a biopic per se.

I totally enjoyed a radically different movie and also the hint about a woman’s choice of following a political career while her spouse wanted a low profile lifestyle. The most appealing factor was the tension created by real-life choices was well done.

Gulzar Sahab’s works have always been inspirational. His poetry about a jaggery salesman cross an arid desert while enjoying the dripping jaggery coated sweat as a respite from tedium was a wonderful piece of poetry.

The Gulzar’s commentary poems were heartrendingly beautiful for me. Where have these poets hidden within us and erupting from our souls, keep us excited to live for these words.

Sometimes in the evening while the parrots and long distance birds rush home these songs are the call to come home before the sun sinks in the horizon. Sometimes, the desire for such lyrical thoughts in my poems is in my wishlist.
